Subject: Complaint Regarding Recent NDIS Price Changes and Travel Allowance Cuts
Dear [Minister /Senator/ Title and Last Name],
I am writing to raise serious concerns about the recent changes to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) pricing, particularly the reductions affecting allied health services and provider travel.
As a participant in the NDIS [or "as the parent/guardian/carer of an NDIS participant"], I rely heavily on regular support from allied health professionals such as physiotherapists, who help maintain my [or "my family member’s"] independence, mobility, and quality of life. These services are not optional—they are essential.
Unfortunately, the new pricing changes, including cuts to the allowable travel time providers can claim, are already having a negative impact. Many experienced therapists are now reconsidering whether they can continue to support participants—especially those of us living in regional, rural, or outer metropolitan areas.
The implications are serious:
Reduced travel allowances mean that providers are often expected to cover the cost of travel themselves, which is not viable in the long term;
Lower provider payments make it harder for therapists to deliver high-quality services or to accept NDIS participants at all;
Reduced access to care, longer waitlists, and increasing turnover of therapists all directly affect participant outcomes.
For people like me who cannot easily travel to clinics, or who depend on home visits, these changes make it harder—if not impossible—to get the support we need.
I urge your office and the NDIA to urgently reconsider:
The recent changes to provider travel claims, especially for participants living outside major urban centres;
The adequacy of current pricing for allied health supports, in line with actual service delivery costs;
The importance of consulting directly with participants and providers before implementing changes that directly affect our access to care.
The NDIS was created to empower people with disability—not make it harder to access the services we rely on to live full and meaningful lives.
I understand the need to manage costs however the benchmarking that was completed significantly underestimates the costs of delivery quality services and has been worked out using poor methodology. It also follows that other organisations will feed off this report to push lower set fee pricing across the industry which will result in further workforce constraints and make it harder to find help when we need it.
I respectfully request that this matter be reviewed and that participant needs, access, and outcomes be placed at the centre of future decisions.
Sincerely,
